Face Lift
A face lift, medically referred to as rhytidectomy, is designed for patients who have skin that still has some elasticity, as well as strong bone structure. Most patients who have face lift surgery are in their 40’s to 60’s; however, older patients and even those slightly younger can benefit from this procedure. Those who need less significant facial rejuvenation may also benefit from effective alternatives to face lift surgery, such as the MACS facelift, mini-facelift, or a variety of cosmetic injectable fillers that can provide more subtle results.

Contact our experienced plastic surgeons here at the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group for a one-on-one consultation. We will be happy to discuss all aspects of the face lift procedure with you and address any concerns you may have.

Face Lift Procedure
Traditional face lift surgery typically involves incisions made above the hairline at the temples, extending to the front of the ear or inside the front cartilage and going behind the earlobe. Fat and skin is separated from the muscles, and the muscles are then tightened. Excess skin is removed, and the skin tightened to smooth out wrinkles and signs of aging. The incisions are then closed. Exact times of face lift surgery will depend on the extent of the procedure; however, typical face lift surgeries take around two to three hours to complete. Face lift surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia and can be completed on an outpatient basis.

Face lift surgery can be performed at one of our new operating rooms located at the Eena Ocher Medical facility. These fully-equipped, state-of-the-art operatories are certified by the AAAHC as medical environments that adhere only to the highest standard of care.

Face Lift Recovery
Patients can expect some swelling and bruising after face lift surgery. These side effects will dissipate as the face continues to heal. The head will need to be elevated for a few days after surgery, and bandages will need to stay in place for a few days as well. Any residual discomfort from the procedure can be managed with medication. Scars from the procedure are typically barely visible and well-hidden within the hair or natural creases of the face and ears. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about two weeks after face lift. Patients can usually return to normal daily routines about 10 days after the procedure. The full results of face lift should become apparent in the first few weeks after surgery.

Our plastic surgeons at LIPSG are some of the most accomplished in the area, and are highly experienced with successful face lift surgery. They will take every precaution to minimize risks of complications and see that your procedure is safe and effective from before surgery right through to the recovery process.
